Large-scale brain activity monitoring — What do we measure? Where are we going? 2026

【Date】September 2 (Wed) – 3 (Thu), 2026
【Venue】National Institute of Genetics (Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture)
【Overview】
Large-scale neural activity recording is now being conducted in many neuroscience laboratories. However, achieving an understanding of brain function from these large-scale datasets requires overcoming numerous technical challenges related to data acquisition and processing. Researchers must then tackle problems that remain unsolved, such as extracting meaningful information from high-dimensional time-series data and relating time-series neural activity to network structures.
To address these challenges, we are organizing this workshop with the goal of bringing together researchers involved in large-scale brain activity measurement to:
1)Reexamine the fundamental principles of data acquisition and data processing.
2)Gain new ideas and perspectives from the experimental systems and analytical approaches of other researchers.
Through these activities, we aim to significantly advance the research of all participants.
Specifically, we will invite researchers who are conducting cutting-edge brain activity measurements and analyses across a variety of experimental systems, as well as those developing advanced theoretical approaches to brain function analysis. In addition, a poster session will be held to facilitate practical, on-the-ground information exchange among graduate students and early-career researchers.
Following the positive reception of this workshop at the National Institute for Physiological Sciences in 2024, this year's meeting will be hosted by the National Institute of Genetics.
